Implementing real-time data replication for improved compliance

The government organization required an upgrade to their current data set up to ensure faster data transfer, safeguard data integrity, and comply with security standards. The aim was to deploy a s near real-time data transfer across diverse domains without impacting their data integrity or operational efficiency.

Systech implemented a robust CDC (Change Data Capture) solution, involving the installation and configuration of IBM CDC, replacing outdated technologies, and ensuring seamless data transfer with enhanced security features. OVERVIEW 

The client embarked on a project to upgrade its existing data management tools to enhance data transfer speed. By implementing advanced data synchronization techniques, Systech aimed to achieve near real-time data transfer across various domains while ensuring compliance with stringent security standards, and significantly improving operational efficiency. The successful implementation of these solutions would enable seamless data management, reduced latency, and enhanced decision-making capabilities within the organization. 

THE CHALLENGE 

Restricted access to sensitive data and systems, which required progressing without direct visibility into the datasets was a critical challenge. The client environmental also had limited server access. Ensuring real-time data replication with minimal latency was essential, demanding strict compliance with security standards to maintain data integrity. And, the installation and configuration process required detailed, step-by-step guidance to personnel due to restricted access, ensuring accurate server setups and configurations. Overcoming these obstacles necessitated meticulous planning, effective communication, and flexible strategies to successfully implement the upgraded data management solution. 

THE DETAILED SOLUTION PROCESS 

To enhance the data replication process, IBM Change Data Capture (CDC) was implemented to replace the existing Oracle golden gate technology. This upgrade was essential for supporting the client’s advanced data needs and ensuring a more robust replication framework. 

A three layer installation was conducted, including:  

• A core CDC engine to handle real-time data replication. 
• An access server to facilitate seamless connections between the CDC engine and various data sources and targets. 
• A management console to provide a comprehensive interface for monitoring and controlling the CDC processes. 

Data replication jobs were meticulously developed to ensure accurate and efficient data transfer between systems. Despite limited dataset access, rigorous testing was performed to validate the reliability and performance of these replication jobs. 

Deployment and decommissioning following successful development and validation, wherein all codes and configurations were smoothly deployed to the production environment, ensuring uninterrupted operations. Concurrently, the existing Oracle golden gate technology was decommissioned without downtime, and the new CDC replication system was seamlessly brought into full operation. 

THE IMPACT 

Reduced replication time from 8-10 hours to 30 minutes, significantly improving the speed and efficiency of data handling. Additionally, near real-time replication was achieved with a latency of just 5 minutes, greatly enhancing both performance and reliability. 

Improved decisions, quicker data transfer facilitating better decision-making and operational efficiency, particularly in immigration processes. This enhancement allowed for quicker identification of trespassers and violators, ensuring heightened security measures. 

Data encryption compliance enhancing overall data security. Furthermore, the recovery process was simplified in case of system failures, ensuring continuous data availability and minimal disruption to operations.
