Systech’s data migration solution provided a resilient, automated solution through the setup of a robust Kubernetes cluster, enhancing the client’s data processing and reporting capabilities. 

THE CHALLENGE 

The existing Docker environment posed challenges in maintaining uptime and required extensive manual interventions during server downtimes. Additionally, the lack of official Docker images for the required Greenplum version necessitated the manual creation and configuration of custom images. Migrating 4TB of data while ensuring integrity and consistency was logistically complex. Delays in setting up the Kubernetes cluster by the client’s infra team further complicated the project, looming over the impending deadlines.  

THE DETAILED SOLUTION PROCESS 

A robust Kubernetes cluster composing of six nodes, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance was established. This foundational setup was crucial for maintaining continuous operations and minimizing potential downtime. 

 Creation and configuration of custom Docker images necessitated by the unavailability of official Docker images for Greenplum, enabled the seamless migration of 4TB of data to the new environment, ensuring data integrity and consistency throughout the process.  

 A comprehensive Spark architecture was implemented within the Kubernetes environment. Deploying PySpark scripts facilitated efficient big data processing, significantly enhancing the client’s data analytics capabilities. 

 Integrating Airflow to orchestrate the data integration processes ensured that all data processing tasks were automated, reducing manual interventions and increasing operational efficiency. 

 Automated monitoring and recovery processes within the Kubernetes environment eliminated downtime by enabling rapid detection and resolution of issues, further reducing the need for manual interventions.
